In conjunction with 50th anniversary of Malaysia-Spain diplomatic ties in 2017, and in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in Malaysia, Spanish photographer Manu Mart (Madrid, 1979) travels through the Strait of Malacca taking as starting point the novel from Malaysian writer Tash Aw, “The Harmony Silk Factory”.
Same as his main character, Johnny Lim, the photographer travels in order to define the physical and human geography of Malaysia, giving clues to the observer to build their own answers about who’s Johnny, a character that it’s not real, but at the same time represents the essence of a whole country.
Through glimpses of people and places that the photographer has found in his journey, looking for marks from the past, he brings 50 images where the captivating veil from the past is shown under the mystery and fascinating atmosphere that surround the time and the landscapes where Johnny Lim travels.
